Norman Finkelstein, a Jewish American political scientist and author, specializing in Jewish-related issues and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was invited to give a speech at the University of Waterloo in which a Jewish girl threw the Holocaust card to silence criticisms of the Israeli government’s crimes against the Palestinian people. 

And here is what Dr. Finkelstein had to say in response.

What’s happening is Israel is an apartheid and it is wrong but you can’t call the Israelis nazis.

 That’s not okay.

and the holocaust is not a fucking card.  don’t call people nazis. 

israel is not the third reich.

And the only reason that he gets away with it is because he’s Jewish.  This is why I don’t talk about Israel that frequently because I don’t want to be “my jewish friend says” because I’m not okay with that.  Jewish leftists get used by the left as an expression of how some jews agree with them thus it’s okay to call israelis nazis.  And that’s not okay.

Further, there’s a great deal of thought that goes into calling Jewish people Nazis.  That’s a conscious decision.  There have been a lot of genocides and a lot of ethnic cleansings since the Holocaust.  It takes a lot to say Jews are like Nazis.  That’s when you cease to be a political scientist and start being a political opportunist.  Criticisms of Israel, valid.  Discussion of Israel/Palestine as apartheid, ethnic cleansing, even genocide, valid.  But as soon as you start calling Jewish people Nazis, you have not only made the decision to use terminology you know will evoke an incredibly emotional response, you essentially shut down the conversation.  If that’s a tactic you want to take, fine.  But you end the conversation there, and there is no one you can help by ending the conversation.  It’s designed to provoke an emotional response, that’s the purpose of it, but I have no time for cheap tricks when people are dying.  And neither should Dr. Finkelstein.

When did he “call Jewish people Nazis?” I need a video; none of what the girl said really made sense. I honestly hope that no one is making any incorrect assumptions here.
